Wi-Fi Sync: The best app period

I don't do a lot of reviews for products because most are just not worth the cost. This is an exception. Being part of the "Reverse Engineering" crowd. I get to try alot of apps. Wi-Fi Sync has been out for a little while but since switching to iPad I tend to focus on those apps exclusively. Well Wi-Fi Sync is now available for Windows and iPad. Before it was just the Mac.

This app is well worth the $9.99 price tag. It may even be worth way more. I do not understand how Apple could not have approved this unless of course it plans to add this feature in a future release of iPhone OS.

Wi-Fi Sync enables wireless syncing with iTunes at the touch of a button. Never go looking for that USB cable again. Sync from the car, bed or shed whenever it suits you. Well so the description says. But you are limited to the range of your wi-fi network. Now if you could sync from over the Internet using port forwarding that would really be nice. Also the syncing does work as it states. It syncs music, apps, photos, contacts, calendars, email accounts and pretty much anything that you can with the USB cable. The speed of this transfer is all dependent of the speed of your network. Recommend you get a N router if you don't already have one.

Bottom line get this app, use it, love it. **Note must have your iDevice jailbroken***

Maker of this app is @flukes1

iPad: The best pickup line ever

Last night a friend and I both went to the Zipcar monthly party. It is a party setup to thank members of the program and try to get new ones. If you don't know what Zipcar is, here is the short end of the company. They rent out cars but by the hour. You can get pretty much any car you want for 8. BMW's and high end cars are 12. The cars are parked all over the city. In my case DC but they are in other cities as well.

So I make it to this invite only party ready for a hella good time. I mean how can you go wrong with an open bar? The event location was the rooftop of a ultra hip apartment complex in the heart of DC. The lobby looked like something off a Jay-Z video shoot. The one with Amil and Mac to be precise. Throw your hands up... Sorry flashback. Up on the roof I was hit with the stark fact this was no hip party but a ploy to meet my non member friend. There were about 20 people there all in the mid 30's early 40's, maybe 5 were in the 20's but acted older so it didn't matter.

I grabbed my Pino. That's right party people cheese and wine. (insert Boondocks joke here) The view was very nice. You could see DC from all angles. FYI. The Washington Monument is due for a clean up. It looked dirty grey. Everyone was in pairs like sheep to the ark. I sat down and pulled my iPad from my man leather man purse. (don't judge me, it was a gift) The looks started right away so I am told. I was too into ESPN XL to noticed. By the time I made it to Daily Edition, I had gotten asked the same 3 questions so many times I thought about writing my answers in Pages then just holding the iPad up. The questions were; is that an iPad, do you like it, do you have a card. Yes to all three. Although I ran out of cards later on. I did manage to get 4 numbers from some lovely ladies that could pass for late 20's.

So what is the point? Simple, the iPad is still a fad. People don't understand what it is just yet so there will be questions and they will be thrown at you. It's not like the iPhone where it's used to make calls or the iTouch used for music. Those things have a main purpose. The iPad sits on it's own for now as a novelty waiting to be excepted into the mainstream. Until then enjoy the attention.

OnLive to go live in UK

OnLive, a streaming video-game service that aims to take traditional console business, has stuck a deal that will bring it to the U.K. Under the terms of the deal, OnLive will partner with British Telecommunications to deliver the service to homes across the U.K. BT also bought a 2.6 percent stake in the San Francisco-based company.

OnLive plans to go live in the United States on June 17. It will cost $14.95 a month and offer gamers the ability to buy or rent AAA games from the likes of Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, THQ, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, and 2K Games. BT did not say when it will roll out the OnLive service.

The idea behind the service is that people will get high-frame-rate, no-lag performance out of most console games, regardless of their computer, as long as they have minimum Internet connection speeds of 1.5Mbps for standard-definition play and 5Mbps for HD, and are no more than 1,000 miles from an OnLive data center.

They are going to need a lot of data centers to keep up with demand if this thing takes off. I am willing to give it a try it's like an instant Gamefly, you're paying the same amount for instant gratification. Now since it's mostly handled on the sever side what is to stop them having an app for the iPad? Not iPhone we need big screens here. I'm sure the A4 chip is more than up to snuff to handle it and I've had a hard time putting down the wii remote while playing Snes4iphone. What are your thoughts on streaming games on iPad?

Iron Man 2: not Kickass

Iron Man 2 has that Dark Knight-reminiscent score that everyone was hoping for as we meet Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke)it was short lived though. He is the best part of the movie but his intro only takes up the opening credits, and it's barely any time at all before we're tossed into the excess of the Stark Expo.

Iron Man 2 seemed to constantly moving away from kickass action to just plain action. Tony Stark spends most of the movie in sad mood because he is poisoned from the inside by the core reactor that's keeping him alive they also added some daddy issues. Other than being named Stark Industries CEO Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), does little else in the movie. Robert Downey Jr. did the best acting in the movie at times it felt like he did the only acting.

Whiplash interrupts a Monte Carlo car race to attack Tony with beautifully realized electrical whips. That was the climax of the action and it was better than the end boss review. Monte Carlo sequence is everything Iron Man does best: fluid storytelling, over-the-top enjoyable action, inventive gadgets, and humor.

Tony's military friend Rhodey (Don Cheadle who replaced Terrence Howard) is fed up with his friend's drunken antics and shows up at Tony's birthday party to reclaim the a Iron Man suit. I won't spoil the details but you probably already know that War Machine makes an appearance since I'm sure you have seen the trailer.

This movie had Natasha (Scarlett Johansson), Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents and a hint of Thor. Yet villain the final showdown was more of a wimpy. What I do like is Iron Man 2 puts us exactly where we left off on the Iron Man. Do not get me wrong this is a good movie but not worthy of a Blockbuster.

As a comic book fan and a Marvel fanboy I expected to understand the purpose of S.H.I.E.L.D., where Iron Man might fit into the Avengers why Tony Stark would want to be in superhero club. I wanted to see what they did in with that in the movie. Or at the least have people that don't read comics be able to understand Iron Man's place in Avengers or SHIELD. But nope nothing.

Based on the first movie you should watch this one if for anything to see the Super 8 trailer or for the fact you know everyone will be talking about it good or bad.

Nintendo sees Apple as Enemy

According to Times Online, Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata recently told senior executives that they need to treat Apple and all of its mobile iDevices as a threat, an “enemy of the future.”  But it’s not like Nintendo has been blindsided by Apple. After Nintendo took out Sony it became clear that Apple would be in the same market as them.

Even Iwata acknowledged in the past that Apple’s iDevices have been putting ever-increasing pressure on the company, and that they just wouldn’t be able to sustain the same sales numbers as they have had in the past.  That forecast turned out to be true, as Nintendo saw its profits decline for the first time in six years.

AT&T Extended iPhone Exclusivity?

Broadpoint AmTech research analyst Brian Marshall has some bad news for you.

"AT&T had to do something dramatic to get the iPad," said Brian Marshall, a Wall Street analyst at BroadPoint AmTech. AT&T's move was to discount their normal wireless data plans by 50% to iPad customers. As part of the tit-for-tat, AT&T got what it wanted. "For that pricing [on the iPad], AT&T was able to negotiate a six-month extension on the iPhone exclusive," Marshall said.

At this point I think it is a 50/50 chance either way. With the iPhone HD (I used to still call it iPhone 4G until I learned about the 720p capability) Verizon can get some much new customers that AT&T might never catch up. I am willing to say that AT&T Will do whatever it takes to keep the iPhone with them. One think they might do is lower the price of data like they did with the iPad.

Ok that is enough on the iDevices for a while a member told me I was turning to a fan boy since my last few blogs have been about them.

Wired's Charlie Sorrel wrong about Spirit Jailbreak

Not only does he misinform people about what the jailbreak does by saying it's for destabilizing your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch whilst simultaneously reducing its battery life. He also credits the wrong person for the program. He gives credit to QuickPwn for The “Spirit” jailbreak. At least he got the untethered part right. Next time fact check please. To read the full list of mistakes go to http://bit.ly/9jXvgR

Apple sells 1,000,000 iPads (now Jailbreakable)

Just 28 days after its introduction Apple sold its millionth iPad. 1.5 million ebooks have already been downloaded to the device, along with 12 million apps. That's less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve the milestone with the iPhone, and demand continues to outstrip supply. You can hate as much as you want but they do make great products and now that Comex has released the much awaited Spirit jailbreak to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3, iPhone OS 3.1.2 for all iPhones (including iPhone 3GS with updated Boot ROM) and iPod Touches and iPhone OS 3.2 for iPad there is not reason not to get one. We all thought Geohot would be first but guess not.
